This is still a beta version, so feedback, bug reports and suggestions are very welcome.
Scorekeeper Release Notes
v0.40
- Games has a Tools menu instead of separate UI text editor, Clear saved names, and Reset Scorekeeper buttons. Start a new game is still its own button. Opening Tools overlays the list; it does not push the rest of the window. (#100)
- Tools includes Backup and Restore. Backup asks first, then downloads this device’s Scorekeeper as a JSON file named
Hand and Foot Scorekeeper backup -plus the date and time. Restore asks for a file, then replaces all games, saved names, preferences, and UI text on this device after you confirm. (#16) - More actions on the last game in the list stays on screen in portrait. Where the menu cannot all fit, including phone landscape, scrolling the Games list does not close it. (#99)
- More actions now says Mark as completed. The confirm button uses the same words. French was already Marquer comme terminée. (#101)
- Each round has a collapsed Add a note line under the score table, aligned with the score labels. Add a note and Note: use the same weight as Canastas; the note text itself is not bold. Tap to type; it saves as you type. Clicking outside closes the field. The closed line shows Note: plus the first line, with an ellipsis if it does not fit. In Summaries, a small note-page mark appears next to Round #N when that round has text. (#98)
v0.39
- Game name on New game and Edit game is optional, like Target score. If you leave it blank, the header and Games show the player-name title (
Alice vs Bob, or8-player/team gameat four-plus). (#83) - More actions on a game now has Export Excel after Duplicate. It downloads one spreadsheet for that game. The file name starts with
Hand and Foot game -and ends with the created date and time. Blank score cells become0in the file only. (#14) - Games has Reset Scorekeeper in the same row as Clear saved names. After you confirm, this device is a first visit again: no games, no saved names, no keypad or view preferences, no recovery copies. (#22)
- Clear saved names is only on Games. It is no longer on New game.
- More actions uses a caret instead of ⋯. Duplicate no longer has an ellipsis. The Duplicate game window is unchanged.
- UI text editor on Games replaces Words next to En / Fr. The left column is always the original English. The right column is yours for the language you are editing. Changes save as you type. The page title Scorekeeper is not in the list. Reset puts the shipped wording back for the language you are editing. (#64)
- The Previous rounds label is gone. Hidden, Summaries, and Expanded are three equal icon buttons. The tooltip still says the depth. (#88)
- After Start new game, iPad Chrome lands at the top of the page, with the Scorekeeper header visible. (#89)
- On a wide screen, Standings and Instructions — open card and closed tab — line up with the green Round #N · Current round header. A short window keeps that top and scrolls inside the card. (#92)
- The current-round header is no longer a toggle and has no chevron. That card stays open. Previous rounds still collapse. (#94)
- Delete last round is now Delete current round. French is Supprimer la ronde en cours. The button still removes the current (highest-number) round. (#96)
v0.38
- When Games, New game, Edit game, or a confirm window is open, En / Fr and Back to website sit under that window. (#90)
- En / Fr closes if you click or tap outside it, press Escape, or open a window. (#91)
v0.37
- On iPad Chrome, a long formula grows left from the score cell. It no longer jumps onto the green Round #1 · Current round header. (#80)
- In French Résumés, Total de la ronde stays on one line, like the current round and Dépliées. (#85)
- In and Out on the keypad are an open square with a stroke arrow through the missing corner. They no longer use a filled triangle. (#86)
- In Edit game, the blue focus halo is visible all the way around Game name and the name fields. (#87)
v0.36
- The Scorekeeper is in English at
/scorekeeper/and in French at/scorekeeper/fr/. En / Fr next to Back to website opens English and Français. Switching language keeps the same game. Back to website goes to the matching site language. (#17) (#18) - On French, the footer points to the English Notes de mise à jour du Scorekeeper and says they are in English only for now. A blank name is Nom n° 1. Standings says Comprend la ronde en cours. (#17) (#18)
- In and Out on the keypad are icons in every language. The tooltip says what will happen. If the keypad cannot sit in the row, a tap still explains there is not enough space. (#17)
v0.35
- On New game and Edit game, Player/team names uses the same size and weight as Game name, Target score, and Number of players or teams. (#78)
- When the keypad is Out, the drag tab sticks out of the top again so you can move it. The tab stays hidden while the keypad is In. (#79)
- In / Out now names where the keypad is. In the row the button says Out. When the keypad is floating — chosen, dragged, or squeezed — the button says In. If there is not enough room to sit in the row, In is grayed and a tap shows Not enough space. (#82)
v0.34
- On a phone, the game name sits on its own line. Games and New game sit together on the next line, the same width. (#72)
- On a phone, Round #N and Current round stay on one line. Game target / Target reached sits on the next line, so the full amount stays visible. (#72)
- On a phone and on iPad portrait, Delete last round and Add next round sit under the current round. Previous rounds with Hidden / Summaries / Expanded sits with the previous rounds. (#72)
- Deductions amounts use the same weight as Canastas, Cards, and Bonus. They stay red. (#73)
- Pressing = or a keypad navigation arrow returns the score cell to its column width as soon as the result replaces the formula. (#75)
- A long formula grows out of the score cell on iPad while you type it, without leaving the cell. (#76)
- A formula stays a formula until you press =, move with Enter/Tab or a keypad arrow, or leave the cell on purpose. A keypad tap that only inserts a digit or operator no longer calculates. (#77)
v0.33
- The keypad number, +, − and = keys keep working once a formula is longer than the keypad strip. Clicking them with a mouse used to stop entering anything, while the caret arrows and the physical keyboard still worked. (#70)
- The keypad strip still slides to keep the caret in view, and it now settles instead of redrawing continuously behind a long formula. (#70)
v0.32
- Started work so the keypad strip follows the caret in a long formula. That is not finished. (#70)
v0.31
- The Standings subtitle is now Including current round. It no longer says After 1 round / After X rounds, which sounded as if that round was finished. (#9)
- The footer Scorekeeper Release Notes link now opens in a new tab, like the same link in Instructions. (#59)
- Under Target score, New game and Edit game both say Leave blank for no target score. on one line. That replaces Leave blank if you do not want to use a target score. and Leave blank to remove the target score. (#66)
- Name fields sit under one heading, Player/team names. Each box uses the placeholder Name #1, Name #2, and so on. An empty name on the sheet is Name #1, not Player/Team #1. That heading replaces Player or team 1 on New game and Players/Teams on Edit game. (#67)
- New game no longer shows Previously used names appear as suggestions when you select a name field. Suggestions still appear when you select a name box. (#69)
- When a long equation grows out of a cell, the current-round card keeps its rounded corners. (#71)
- With the keypad in the row, the page can scroll through previous rounds, the round buttons, and the footer. (#68)
v0.30
- The English word list is now grouped by part of the Scorekeeper (Games, New game and Edit game, keypad, and so on). What you see on screen is unchanged. (#65)
v0.29
- Player-facing words now come from one English list, instead of being written separately in the page and in the app. That is the setup for later languages. (#34)
v0.28
- The page title is now just Scorekeeper. The version and date now sit in the comments footer, next to the Release Notes link. (#50)
- In the round header, the red
Target reached: XX,XXXmessage now replaces the game target, instead of repeating both phrases. The two-player grid is a little wider so that stays on one line. (#51) - Previous rounds are now one control: Hidden, Summaries, or Expanded. (#53)
- The Add next round button is now the main action under the round. The Delete last round button is quieter. (#54)
- The Games button stays prominent. The New game button is secondary. (#55)
- Adding a round keeps the keypad up if it was up, and focuses the first cell of the new current round. An invalid cell still blocks the action. (#56)
- In a score field, a long equation stays visible while you type it, growing left from the cell until you commit. (#57)
- The keypad and the current-round grid now share the same styles when they sit in a row. They are aligned at the top and heights are not forced equal. (#58)
v0.27
Current round and keypad share one scoring row
- On tablet and desktop, the current round and the Scorekeeper keypad sit next to each other when they both fit, centered as a pair, with the keypad on the left or right you already chose. Previous rounds stay centered. (#52)
- A keypad button takes the keypad out of that row and puts it back. If the pair does not fit, the keypad floats until there is room. Phone layout is unchanged. (#52)
v0.26
Narrower score columns and stylesheet housekeeping
- Player/team score columns are about 25% narrower for every player count, on tablet and desktop, so the keypad has more room. The Canastas/Cards label column is unchanged.
- Live colours now use named CSS variables.
- The phone vs tablet cutoff stays at 700px and is named in both CSS and JavaScript.
- WordPress-theme override CSS is switched off (commented out) now that the Scorekeeper is a standalone page.
v0.25
Upright stacked drawer-tab labels
- Desktop and tablet Instructions and Standings tabs now use upright letters stacked top to bottom, instead of a rotated word.
- Phone tabs stay horizontal along the bottom.
This release also includes housekeeping from after v0.24 went live:
- There is now a single Scorekeeper HTML page. Leftover copies were removed so the live site and tests cannot drift apart.
- Page width and padding now live in the shared stylesheet instead of being duplicated in the HTML.
- Unused leftover header styles from an older page layout were removed.
Scoring, games, keypad and drawers are unchanged from v0.24.
v0.24
Standalone Scorekeeper page
The Scorekeeper is now a standalone page on the site, instead of being embedded in a WordPress/WPBakery page.
- The English Scorekeeper lives at /scorekeeper/ as a complete HTML page with app.js and styles.css.
- The page title follows the usual pattern: Scorekeeper Beta v0.24 – 2026-08-31, using the site’s Exo heading face at a smaller size so it fits with the score sheet.
- A Back to website button returns to the rest of handandfootgame.ca. The WordPress header and menus are not shown on this page.
- Comments and feedback were removed but are available on the Scorekeeper Release Notes page; a note at the bottom of the Scorekeeper points there.
Scoring, games, keypad and drawers are unchanged from v0.23.
v0.23

This release further refines the Scorekeeper layout, especially for the common two-player/two-team game and for use on tablets.
- Reduced the width of the score-grid label column and player/team columns for a more compact presentation.
- Further refined participant-aware grid sizing so two-column games use substantially less screen space while larger games continue to expand as needed.
- The entire current-round block now follows the compact score-grid width, including the round header, score table, Round total and Ongoing total.
- Added more breathing room around the score sheet on tablet and desktop layouts.
- Improved side margins so the Instructions and Standings tabs are less likely to overlap the active scoring area.

- under and to the right;
- under and to the left;
- over and to the right;
- over and to the left.
- The keypad aligns with the diagonally adjacent score field whenever sufficient space is available.
- Automatic placement keeps the active score row and column unobstructed whenever the screen allows it.

- When unpinned, changing score fields returns the keypad to automatic positioning.
- When pinned, the keypad stays in its chosen position as different score fields are edited.
- A pinned keypad remains draggable and remembers its position.
- Moved the drag handle into a small centered protrusion above the keypad.
- Improved keypad positioning so the drag handle remains accessible within the usable screen area.
- The keypad now displays above the closed Instructions and Standings tabs while open drawers and dialogs remain above the keypad.
